Prohibition was the ban of alcohol in Canada and other countries across the world. It was illegal to both buy and sell it throughout the time the country was in prohibition. Prohibition was an issue that affected not only Canada but, it also affected the United States of America in a dramatic way. It was a major issue from the 19th century until the First World War. Many believed that alcohol was banned because it was one of the main causes of social ills in Canada. The Women's Christian Temperance Union was a group of women that were all for the thought of prohibition. By 1884 much of the country had already been affected by prohibition this continued until 1919 when World War 1 ended. Even though this federal legislation is over in North America it is still a importent part of our history.
Many things came from probibition such as crime, there was less crime. Also they had more money to spend on there family because they were not spending there paycheques on liquor. There was also less sickness which ment less people missed work cause they weren't drinking the night before.
